The Last Ones The last ones are people whose lives were marked by numerous historical events that directly influenced the future of the entire world. During World War II, the heroes of the Last Ones series took part in the fight against the enemy—some on the front lines, others working behind them. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with many of them. Most remembered the events of that time with remarkable clarity. Due to my constant busyness, I rarely visited the village of Kornyn, and therefore seldom returned to the history of the Last Ones. As time passed, the heroes left this world, but many of them were captured in photographs that will forever remind the world of their heroism. I worked on this series between 2009 and 2011 in the town of Kornyn, Popilnia district, Zhytomyr region, Ukraine. Below is a brief account of each veteran of World War II.
